(March 6 2020) - With the rise of COVID-19 cases globally, Lufthansa is facing massive declines in flight demand as well as an increase in flight booking cancellations. To manage the current situation, the airline has announced plans to reduce flight capacity by 50%, along with the possibility of grounding all 14 Airbus A380s based out of Munich and Frankfurt temporarily as an additional measure.
This measure is designed to reduce the financial consequences of the slump in demand. It complements the planned savings actions in the area of personnel, in material costs and project budgets, and other liquidity measures.
Lufthansa is one of the latest airlines to announce reduction measures during the COVID-19 situation, following after Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific and many others.
