Embraer, in partnership with Saab and the Brazilian Air Force, has unveiled the first supersonic fighter aircraft produced in Brazil at its facility in Gavião Peixoto.
The rollout marks a key milestone in the Brazil–Sweden defense partnership, highlighting the country’s growing capability to manufacture advanced fighter jets domestically. The aircraft, the Gripen E, is built using a combination of local and international supply chains.

Before entering service, the aircraft will undergo final testing and will later join the Brazilian Air Force fleet at Anápolis Air Force Base.
Designed for multi-role operations including air defense, reconnaissance, and strike missions, the Gripen E features advanced avionics, sensor fusion, and network-centric capabilities, enabling enhanced situational awareness and mission effectiveness.

Under a 2014 agreement with the Brazilian government, a total of 36 Gripen fighters are being developed and produced—comprising 28 single-seat Gripen E and 8 two-seat Gripen F variants. Deliveries commenced in 2020, with 10 aircraft delivered to date.
Since February, the aircraft has been deployed on Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) duties from Anápolis Air Force Base, supporting the protection of airspace over Brazil’s federal district.
