On 28 June 2025, Defence and Security Industry Day (DSID) was hosted in support from the British High Commission in Singapore and UK Defence and Security Exports in the hangar deck of HMS Prince of Wales during its port call in Singapore. The event saw over 30 UK companies in attendance, signifying the UK’s commitment to deepening industrial ties between the UK and Singapore.

Lord Coaker, Minister of State for Defence, in his speech during the opening of the DSID, said:

“As one of the most advanced and capable ships in our fleet, it makes an ideal setting to showcase some of the UK and Singapore’s world-leading technology and the innovation of our defence companies.”

Gravity Industries showed off their jet suits in a live flight demonstration.

MBDA displayed its Meteor beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile as well as the SPEAR air to surface missile.

The UK DragonFire directed-energy weapon demonstrator, developed by MBDA UK with QinetiQ, Leonardo, GKN, Arke, BAE Systems and Marshall Land Systems.

Airbus Defence and Space exhibited the Proteus Unity through-rotor modem, a software-defined radio that delivers secure, high-throughput IP connectivity through rotor blades.

Mr Martin Kent, His Majesty's Trade Commissioner for Asia Pacfic mentioned:

“This year, we committed to the biggest sustained increase in defence spending since the Cold War … Close to 4 percent of our £53.9 billion annual defence budget is dedicated to research and development. And this is set to increase to 7 percent by 2030.”

By bringing advanced systems together with senior decision-makers, DSID provides a platform for defence and tech companies between the UK and Singapore to facilitate potential cooperation and collaborations, as well as strengthening partnerships between both Singapore and UK defence industries.
